November 5 @ 12:00 am

The young actor Tom Mercier gives a fearless, feverish breakthrough performance as an Israeli on the loose in Paris, seemingly at the frontier of madness, in an obsessive quest to shed his national identity and embrace a more Francophile persona. Writer-director Nadav Lipid (“Policeman,” “The Kindergarten Teacher”) draws on his own past in this tilt-a-whirl character study of a man in conflict with his own culture, often absurdly adrift in a strange new land. Lipid takes satirical aim at both Israeli and Parisian cliches (including the stylish French couple who befriend – and desire – him, who seem to come straight from a nouvelle vague movie), while the nimble camera dips and sprints.
