GOLDEN KEY AWARD FOR COSTUME DESIGN

Francine Jamison-Tanchuck began her 40-year-plus career as a Hollywood costume designer with one of the most auspicious assignments of the 1980s: The Academy Award-laden Civil War epic Glory. Since then, her talents have shaped dozens of films, from contemporary comedies White Men Can’t Jump, Boomerang and gritty dramas Get Rich or Die Tryin’ to cyber-fiction thrillers Virtuosity and hard-hitting social justice sagas Detroit, Just Mercy. She is a groundbreaking artist, the first African-American costume designer hired at both Disney and Paramount studios.

This year, the Key West Film Festival presents her with its Golden Key for Excellence in Costume Design award. As part of the evening honoring Jamison-Tanchuck, she will join a discussion of her work that includes clips from the new film One Night in Miami, the directorial debut of Academy Award-winning actress Regina King, which is due for Christmas release. The film imagines a hotel gathering of Malcolm X, Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke, celebrating in Miami after Ali scored an upset title victory of Sonny Liston in 1964.
