Can You Hear My Voice?

November 19, 2020 @ 8:45 pm

Can You Hear My Voice?

The one-of-a-kind Shout at Cancer choir, whose members have had their voice boxes removed as a result of various throat cancers, prepare for their most ambitious concert: a sold-out performance at London’s historic Tabernacle Theatre.

The film includes songs popularized by Nina Simone, Tears for Fears, and Louis Armstrong. Along the way, choir members’ cancer stories unfold, revealing their fears and struggles with self-identity and loss. Far from maudlin, “Can You Hear My Voice?” bears witness to the power of music and is a triumphant testimony to the human capacity for resilience in the face of overwhelming adversity. It is director Bill Brummel’s first film since his own voice box was removed in 2016.
